Trials are to take place to be part of the first U18 3x3 Basketball squads to represent Ireland at European Championships. 

Ireland’s U18 Men’s and Women’s sides have both been drawn in Pool One of the European Championship Qualifiers in Szolnok, Hungary on Saturday July 16th and Sunday July 17th. 

An open trial for both U18 Men’s and Women’s squads will take place on Saturday May 7th from 18:30 to 21:00 at the National Basketball Arena. 

Players wishing to try out must host a valid Irish passport and be available to travel to Hungary from July 15th to 18th. 

Here’s how to register for the trials:
  • Make sure you are registered and have an active profile as a 3x3 Basketball player. If you are not already registered, you can do so free of charge at www.3x3planet.com
  • Email Matthew Hall at mhall@basketballireland.ie with your intention to try our and include your name, DOB and club. 

Ireland U18 International 3x3 Basketball Trials
Date: Saturday May 7th, 2016
Venue: National Basketball Arena, Tallaght
Time: 18:30 - 21:00

The following teams are competing at the U18 Men’s Qualifiers: 
Netherlands (1), Andorra (4), Hungary (6 – host), France (13), Belgium (17), Georgia (21), Czech Republic (24), Lithuania (28), Switzerland (34), Wales (38), Slovak Republic (41), Ireland (42).

The following teams are competing at the U18 Women’s Qualifiers:
Hungary (1 – host), Israel (4), Poland (5), France (11), Czech Republic (12), Romania (17), Belarus (21), Lithuania (28), Wales (32), Ireland (38), Ukraine (58), Austria (65).

Teams will qualify to the European Championships as follows:
Top 5 teams of the final standings at the Qualifier in Hungary; should Hungary as the host of the European Championships finish in the Top 5 of the final standings at the Qualifier in Hungary, the team finishing 6th in this Qualifier will qualify.

The 2016 3x3 U18 European Championships will be held on 9-11 September 2016 in Debrecen (HUN). 

Eligibility of Players for Qualifiers
  • Players foreseen to compete in the Qualifiers must fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
  • Players must be registered in 3x3planet.com with a confirmed account.
  • Players must have participated in a minimum of 2 FIBA-endorsed events in the last
  • 12 months prior to Monday, 6 June 2016.
  • Players must have a valid passport issued by the represented country.
  • Players cannot have represented another national federation in 5v5 or 3x3 FIBA
  • official competitions.
  • Born on or after 1 January 1998, but no later than 31 December 2000
  • Please note, that the pool of eligible players will be frozen in FIBA ́s backend.3x3planet.com on 6 June 2016 and no changes to this pool of eligible players will be possible at a later stage.
  • FIBA highly recommends starting to plan your national team rosters in a timely manner in order to make sure, that all your potential national team players fulfil the eligibility requirements.
