Ireland Women To Face CUA Cardinals

  • May 13,2016
The Ireland Senior Women’s Squad are to face more American opposition ahead of the FIBA European Championships for Small Countries.

Mark Scannell’s squad will take on a team from the Catholic University of America (Washington, DC) in NUI Galway on Saturday May 21st at 6pm.

The Catholic University Cardinals compete in the Landmark Conference (Affiliated with NCAA’S Division III) where they reached the Championship final in 2015-2016. It was the fourth time in five seasons they contested the decider having won in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Their 17-10 record for this season included a conference record 11-5.

17 players make the trip to Ireland including Michelle Desantis, who was been named First Team All-Landmark for the last two seasons. Staff are led by Head Coach Matthew Donohue.

The Ireland U20 Women’s Squad have confirmed that they too will take on touring sides in the coming weeks ahead of their trip to the European Championships in Montenegro.

First up is a game against a selection of players on tour with USA Athletes International, Inc - a non-profit organisation bringing a squad of athletes on a nine-day ‘Irish Roots Tour’ of the country.

That game is fixed for St. Aidan’s CBS, Whitehall, Dublin on Sunday May 22nd at 15:30.

That’s followed by back-to-back games against Great Britain at the Oblate Hall, Inchicore, Dublin on the weekend of July 1st and 2nd (Fixtures TBC).
