Ireland 57, Slovenia 85

In the opening minutes Slovenia affirmed they would be a challenging team - the lead they established in the first two minutes would be maintained and widened throughout the game.
Scores from Whelan and Rice kept Ireland within a safe distance of Slovenia at the start, the scoreboard reading 6-10 after six minutes.

Two free shots from Adeogun and a buzzer shot from Rice left Ireland trailing 12-23 at the end of the first quarter.

Whelan, Rice, Moore and O’Flaherty added points to the scoreboard but Slovenia pushed ahead and lead 45-23 at the end of the second quarter.  

Despite entering the second half lagging by 22 points – the biggest lead in the game so far - Ireland kept the momentum going.

A basket from Kenny and a free shot from Rice brought the score to 26 – 52.
Slovenia took a thirty point lead with just over four minutes left and both teams retaliated almost
basket for basket in the final minutes. A last minute shot from Holli Dunne positioned Ireland thirty points behind heading into the final quarter.

Ireland gave a solid performance in the final quarter, even outscoring Slovenia by two points, but it wasn’t enough to even come close to winning.

Before being fouled out, Kate O’Flaherty scored two three pointers in quick succession and a free shot, bringing the score to 51 – 75.

Two free shots from Aoife Whelan in the last minute brought the finishing score to 57-85.
Emer Foley, the Head Coach for Ireland described it as a “tough loss” against a “good side”.
