Basketball Ireland Men's Super League:
Jermaine Turner netted a whopping 45 points to send Pyrobel Killester to their first Super League victory of the season at the weekend, winning 83-74 over SSE Airtricity Moycullen.

“It’s good to get on the board,” said Head Coach, Brian O’Malley. “It was a tough game, Moycullen really took us out of our comfort zone, it was a battle from start to finish. We were disappointed with the way we finished against Templeogue, we felt we let that one get away from us but in fairness to Templeogue they stuck around and put a good run together to finish the game. You’d hope week by week that you learn and get better, we certainly had plenty of things to reflect on from the first two weeks that we weren’t happy about.”

Elsewhere, UCD Marian remain top of the table after securing their third win from three games with a 74-67 point win over Belfast Star. There were also wins for DCU Saints and Irish TV Tralee Warriors who faced off the challenge from UL Eagles and KUBS BC respectively, while Sunday was a big day for UCC Demons as they secured a 90-74 point win over Griffith Swords Thunder.

Basketball Ireland Women’s Super League:

Brittany Glasco was the toast of NUI Galway on Saturday when she drove her side home to a first-ever Super League win over Meteors in the Kingfisher. A delighted Head Coach Mike Murray was thrilled with his young side’s performance and stated that a change in defence in the fourth quarter was what finally separated the two teams who had been level on more than 10 occasions throughout the game.

“We changed up our defence at the beginning of the fourth quarter and it worked, we took them out, the girls played defence and did a super job. They are all 16, 17 and 18 years old the ones and should be all so proud of themselves.”

Elsewhere, Ambassador UCC Glanmire continued their winning streak, when they overcame Maxol WIT Wildcats 63-57 in a thriller. The long-time rivals were neck-in-neck throughout the opening two quarters, but Glanmire really pushed on in the third quarter and an on-form Chantell Alford ensured they held the lead at the final buzzer.

Pyrobel Killester opened their League campaign with a resounding win over Portlaoise Panthers at home on Saturday evening, winning 87-60 after a strong showing. Impressive displays from Leah Fechko (21) and Mimi Clarke (20) put Killester on top from the start and they will be hoping to build on this win when they face off to Maxol WIT Wildcats next weekend.
