Detailed Results

Men's Super League

It was a day of mixed emotions for UCD Marian Head Coach Ioannis Liapakis meanwhile as, after a shaky middle two quarters, his side ran out 85-74 point winners over DCU Saints.
“It was a really difficult game,” he said. “We had a good first quarter, but they came back in the second and we missed some lay-ups and had a few turnovers which gave them the opportunity to run some fast breaks on us and score some easy baskets.
“We played some fantastic defence in the fourth and Mike Garrow and Dustan Moreira scored almost 60 points between them. We are really pleased with the result as it showed the team has great character and determination.”

Templeogue continued their impressive form to make it six wins from six as they overcame Belfast Star - and both Darren O'Neill (Belfast Star) and Mark Keenan gave their reaction to the game.

Women's Super League

Clontarf was the place to be on Saturday evening, as Pyrobel Killester drove home to a 71-65 point over Singleton SuperValu Brunell in the Women’s Super League.

Speaking about their performance, Women’s Head Coach Karl Kilbride was happy with his side’s win against Brunell - who are chasing their first win of the League - but acknowledged that they have a lot to improve on ahead of their clash with DCU Mercy next weekend.

“I’m very happy with the win, but not so happy with the performance,” he admitted. “In the first quarter we were excellent offensively but were poor defensively - we gave away far too many points. We turned things around in the third quarter and we were excellent in the fourth. Our fitness told towards the end and we were able to pull away a bit, keeping the tempo high and the pressure on. There’s a lot that needs to be improved on, we’ve a big game next weekend so we’ll have to pick up our defensive display.”

Women's Division One

There were six teams in action this weekend in the Women's Division One, with a top of the table clash between Ulster Rockets and ITC Basketball one of the big highlights of the weekend.

Despite a strong display from Rockets, which saw them going in with a seven-point lead at half-time, ITC Basketball were not to be conquered and drove home to victory with a fantastic second half display.

It was a nail-biter between UL Huskies and Marble City Hawks on Saturday evening, with Hawks having the edge at half-time. However, a massive second half battle ensued and Huskies just edged the win, 61-60.

On Sunday, Fr Mathews made the trip up to Ulster University Elks. The Cork side welcomed Niamh Dwyer who played her first game of the season after recovering from injury and went on to top score for her team with 18 points in her short spell on the court.

A big drive from Elks in the third and fourth quarters kept this result in doubt until the final minute, when Fr Mathews really dug deep to drive out to victory.
