Men's Super League

Kieran Donaghy provided the spark which ignited a match-winning comeback from Tralee Warriors over Commercial.ie Éanna in a pulsating clash in Tralee. Despite being forced to sit out the opening three quarters of the tie after picking up a leg injury in a Gaelic football game earlier that afternoon, Donaghy's impact off the bench inspired a Warriors revival with an input which included four steals, three vital baskets, and one rejection which just about edged the outcome (78-74) for his side, who also had a hugely impressive display from Fergal O’Sullivan who netted 18 points in the first half to continue Warriors unbeaten run at home.

Elsewhere, it looked like Radisson Blu UL Eagles were going to shock UCC Demons in their clash in Limerick on Saturday, leading at half time and at the end of quarter three (65-59) but Demons upped the ante in the last to drive home to victory, with Ciaran O ‘Sullivan and Adrian O’Sullivan top-scoring on 28 and 26 points respectively.

Griffith Swords Thunder meanwhile secured a comprehensive 102-73 point win over DCU Saints, as after an inspired first half display from Saints saw the game tied at 47 apiece at the break, Thunder held firm with fantastic shooting from Jose Gil Narbon and Justin Goldsborough. UCD Marian held firm against Pyrobel Killester while earlier on in the week, Templeogue remained unbeaten with an extremely hard-fought win against KUBS.

Women's Super League

DCU Mercy’s clash with Pyrobel Killester certainly lived up to its billing as a Sarah Fairbanks inspired Mercy managed to secure a 61-56 point win despite a late comeback from Killester.

Indeed, Fairbanks and Sarah Woods showed their experience towards the end, as with two minutes to go, fantastic scoring from Killester brought them back to within just two points (56-54), but a determined and gutsy closing minute saw Mercy pull through.

“They came through and they fought hard – we’re happy with the win,” said DCU Head Coach Mark Ingle. “I’m delighted with the girls’ character today.”

Elsewhere, Courtyard Liffey Celtics eased to a 78-50 point win over Maxol WIT Wildcats to secure their second place position on the table, with Jazmen Boone (17), Aine, Ailbhe and Emma O’Connor all top-scoring for the Kildare side.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the scoreline, it probably flattered us a bit, but we were really on our game tonight and our defence was brilliant,” said Celtics Head Coach Mark Byrne.

Meanwhile, Portlaoise Panthers secured their second win of the League when they ran out 77-60 point winners down in Cork against Singleton SuperValu Brunell, while Ambassador UCC Glanmire made it seven wins from seven as they overcame NUIG Mystics in Galway, 81-48.
