August 01, 2019
The Ireland Under 18 men’s team have finished fourth in their group following the pool stages of the FIBA U18 Men’s European Championship Division B in Romania.
They now go on to contest the 9-16th place games and face Belgium at 12pm (midday) Irish time on Friday, August 2nd, in a tough opening first classification game. Belgium finished in third place in Group A.
Looking ahead to the clash, head coach Paul Kelleher stated: “The one thing – and the great thing – about European Championships is that you have to be mentally engaged for every single game. The next phase now is a wonderful opportunity for our team to go against more high level teams. Belgium provides another different challenge and one we will have to be fully aware of. They have a direct, aggressive and athletic style of play. Now is a chance for us to take what we have learned from the group stages and bring it forward, and hopefully earn a few more wins.”
