Hibernia Basketball have named their travelling squads for away games in Group F of the FIBA Europe Cup.

The combined Men’s Premier League club side will play all their away games in a 14-day block from October 28th to November 11th. 14 players are available to make the trip.

“At the end of the day, these are amateur players and it’s a huge commitment to be involved at this level,” said Team Manager Troy O’Mahony. “We’ve had to make certain plans for the away trips but the full 16 players are available for the home games so those squads will be picked on a game by game basis.”

That said, both myself and Colin [O’Reilly] are fully confident that a strong squad has been picked that can go and be competitive in our road games.” 1

0 of the 16 man-squad are available for the games in Denmark, Slovenia and the Czech Republic – A C&S UCC Demons sextet including Player Coach Colin O’Reilly, Belfast Star’s Keelan Cairns, Patrick Lyons of Moycullen, Templeogue’s Conor Grace and his former club mate Luke Thompson now with Eanna. Martins Provizors (DCU Saints) and Kevin Lacey (GCD Swords Thunder) are available for the competition opener against Bakken Bears on October 28th with their places going to Ronan O’Sullivan and Dylan Cunningham of SSE Airtricity Moycullen respectively for the rest of the away games.

Attention now turns to the opposition Hibernia will face in two week’s time. “The first thing was putting in the work to get on the squad of 16 selected from the original squad,” said Dylan Cunningham. “Now that business is taken care of, we can look ahead and see what's on the horizon. “It's good to get an opportunity to play with the best players in the league. It's nice to be on the squad but having the three of us [from Moycullen] means we can bring it back to our own sessions, improve and own games and also contribute more to our club.”

The FIBA Europe Cup is a competition for professional men’s basketball clubs organised by the sport’s world governing body.

Basketball Ireland received a special derogation to enter an amateur team into the competition, bringing continental club basketball back to Ireland for the first time since 1994. Tickets for Hibernia Basketball’s home games in Group F, commencing on November 18th, are available on eventbrite.ie
