The U17 BIPPS Inter regionals took place over the weekend of the 14/15th November in Galway (Girls) and Waterford (Boys).

It was a wet and windy day in Galway but despite the intense rain the teams all arrive safe and well.

In Pool A the West Region topped the group with wins over the North Region and the Midlands Region. The Midlands booked their semi final spot with a comprehensive win over the North Region.

Pool B saw the South-West Region in the first game defeat the South-East team by a point while the South East Region also advanced to the semi finals following a serious challenge from a well drilled and skilful North West Regional team.

In the semi-final match up the Midlands Region defeated the South West while the West Region defeated the South-East Region.

The West Region was crowned champions following an exciting final against the Midlands in Colaiste Iognaid Galway.

U17 Boys
The proverbial ‘Sunny South-East’ had to give way to ferocious rain and gales that forced the closure of Waterford I.T. gym and the new state of the Art ‘Educate Together School’ gym on Saturday, both victims of partially wet floors. Despite that setback De La Salle, College and Waterpark School gyms ensured that the tournament went ahead for the travelling teams who arrived safely in the main city of "The Déise".

In Pool A the East Region went 3 for 3 to earn a place in the final defeating the South-East Region, Midlands Region and North Regions. The North Region came second in the pool with two wins against the Midlands Region and South East Region.

In Pool B the North West Region narrowly defeated both West Region and North East Region to top the pool and secure a spot in the final. The West Region claimed second spot with a win over an excellent North East Regional team.

In the third place shield game between the second placed team in the two pools the North Region defeated the West Region by a single point.

The Inter Regional Final took place and the weather finally caught up with the resilient De La Salle gym when the referees with just under four minutes remaining recommended the game be abandoned with signs of condensation on the floor. It was the correct decision as safety of the players is paramount and the East Region who had been in superb form all day and were leading at that stage by 9 points had the title awarded to them in the spirit of the tournament.
