Hibernia Basketball round out their maiden FIBA Europe Campaign on Wednesday against one of the most heavily stacked teams in the tournament. CEZ Nymburk may be second to unbeaten Bakken Bears in Group F, but the Czech powerhouse is one of the favourites for the competition outright.

The reasons are compelling. Nymburk have been both league and cup champions in the Czech Republic for the last seven years running and also compete in the Russian VTB League. They sent six players to EuroBasket 2015 including five members of the Czech side that secured a best ever finish. A 97-70 triumph over Latvia in the game for seventh place also secured the last ticket to the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

The big name is Jiri Welsch, the second Czech player ever drafted to the NBA. The 6’7’ guard had over 100 starts with Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks and started all of Celtics’ games in the 2004 playoffs.

Petr Benda started at centre at EuroBasket 2015 while managing 44.4% on free throws. Lubos Barton was role-player with Vojtech Hruban and Pavel Houska averaging 15 minutes court time over the nine games.

Then there are the imports. Chasson Randle worked out for the Lakers, Celtics, Sixers, Jazz, Suns, and Mavericks amongst others during the 2015 NBA Draft process and was widely expected to be picked up in the second round before switching to Europe. The former Stanford player is Nymburk’s top scorer in the FIBA Europe Cup with 16 points per game.

Michael Dixon is a lightning quick shooting guard who was on the radar for the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 according to Draft Express while Julian Vaughn enjoyed four dunks in the last FIBA Europe Cup outing against Hibernia.

Maxime De Zeeuw was at EuroBasket 2015 in the colours of Belgium while Howard Sant-Roos is a Cuban swingman who has proved an instant hit with the Nymburk faithful.
