Scannell Issues Ireland Call

Scannell Issues Ireland Call

  • Dec 20,2015
Ireland Senior Women’s Head Coach Mark Scannell has issued a call to any player who believes they are capable of playing for their country in 2016 - "Make it hard for me not to pick you."

An open trial is taking place in Cork on Monday December 28th and players are invited to register their interest.

“We’ve been hearing for the last three or four years how badly people want the international team back,” said Scannell. “Now it’s back and now we’re ready to go. Myself and my staff have sat down. We have the plan in place, the Mardyke is the venue for the first session and it’s very important that people put themselves up there to be selected.”

“If you feel that you’re good enough to play on an Ireland senior women’s team you need to turn up. Make it hard for me not to pick you.”

“Obviously there’s going to be a couple of people who are struggling with that day for whatever reason and they need to contact Grace O’Sullivan [Ireland Team Manager] and let her know why they’re not coming and when we can expect to see them but they have to register their interest.”

“The more people we get there on the 28th, that gives them the advantage because they’re the first people that we see. Obviously if you’re in the door early, you have a much better opportunity of making the squad.”
