Ennistymon brought the under 19c boys cup back to Clare with an MVP display from Ciaran Devitt sealing a terrific display at the National Basketball Arena.

Devitt recently named on Francis O'Sullivans Irish under 18 squad turned in stats of 23 points and 18 rebounds and speaking afterwards Stephen Leigh who runs the team alongside Margaret Molloy was delighted with his teams display.

"The team really put in effort to get to training over the Christmas despite the big freeze," said Leigh. "Some of them had four or five miles to travel but they made a point of making it to the sessions which shows how determined they were to win this.

"A lot of these guys have been involved with the Dungarvan and Gormanston Summer colleges and we reaped the benefits out there today."

Ronan Linane and Aidan Malone gave terrific displays while Tommy Kinch and Ryan O'Halloran gave fantastic displays out on the perimeter

Ennistymon had opened the first major lead of the game with three minutes to go in the first quarter following a three point play from their big inside man, Ciaran Devitt.

The 6'5 Centre continued to be a big thorn in Mountraths side but some crucial baskets from team captain, Denis Curran ensured that the O'Moore boys under Bridgie Lawlor trailed by just seven at the end of the quarter 18-11.

CBS maintained their offensive push at the start of the second with Ciaran Devitt and Tommy Kinch pushing their lead out to 14 points.

But with John Hearn starting to come to the fore for Mounrath, the boys in blue began to make headway with a succession of baskets from co captain, Eoghan Lawlor, reducing the gap down to six points.

But terrific rebounding on the back boards from Ennistymon captain, Sean Devitt allied with late baskets from Ciaran Devitt and Ryan O'Halloran ensured a 37-27 lead at the break for the Banner men.

And Ennistymon maintained their lead early in the second quarter with Ciaran Devitt, Kinch and Michael Leigh to the fore as Ennistymon led 47-35 midway through that period.

But Mountrath having tightened their defence dug in deep to reel off a succession of baskets from Lawlor who recorded a breakaway lay-up on the buzzer to leave just six points between the teams, 50-46 Ennistymon.

But it was all Ennistymon in the final quarter with Ronan Linane in superb shooting form for the Clare boys with a total of eleven points.
