Eunans edged out Chanel College by nine points with a star contribution from the Hickey brothers
The Two hickey brothers were the star attraction at the National Arena today as they contributed a whopping 57 points between them as Eunans edged out Chanel College by nine point margin in the final.
The coveted Golden Ball award presented by Hoops American, Carlton Aaron, went to Seamus Hickey whose shot five three pointers. Aodhan Hickey was just three points behind with 28 points which included two shots from the outside.
The first half was a terrific affair which was marked out by some terrific outside shooting from Eunans player, Seamus Hickey.
Nonetheless it was Chanel who enjoyed the better start with a jump shot from Adam Ingle followed soon after by baskets from Fearghal Wright and Michael Gleeson.
However St Eunans were soon into their stride with the fast breaking Aidan Hickey twice recording lay-ups under the Chanel basket.
Hickey then landed the bonus free and then after a one point free throw from Ciaran Hegarty, a three pointer from Seamus Hickey followed soon after by a breakaway score from brother Aodhan increased the Eunans lead out to seven points.
And despite another three pointer from Aodhan Hickey, some crucial scores from Ingle kept the Eunans lead down to just three at the end of the quarter, 16-13.
And the two teams ere still evenly matched until MVP Seamus Hickey embarked on an incredible shooting spree that was to see him drain a hat-trick of three pointers in the last two minutes.
However baskets from the influential Michael Gleeson, Jack Gleeson and Ingle ensured a 35-33 lead for Chanal at the interval.
But just as Seamus Hickey dominated the second quarter, so it was with Aodhan in the third as he punished the Chanel defence with a series of breakway scores to put Eunans up 53-46 heading into the final period.
And with Chanels John Chubb turned in a big defensive display for the North Dublin outfit, Ken Blacks side courtesy of successive baskets from Fearghal Wright combined with a one point free had reduced the Eunans lead to a mere six points with just five minutes to go.
But that was as close as Chanel got to their opponents with Aodhan Hickeys basket off an intercept spelling the beginning in the end for Chanel with Hickeys lay up in the final minute rounding off a terrific display
