Fighting 'til the end
23rd Feb 2009
Saturday’s clash between Tolka Rovers and UL Aughinish proved to be an amazing spectacle that did not disappoint.
UL Aughinish travelled to Tolka to face the one team that had handed them an unexpected loss earlier in the season in the UL Arena. Yet even with play off dreams beyond reach, Tolka were set to prove that the previous victory was not a fluke.
Opening tip off saw Tolka take a quick lead but it didn’t last too long as lead changes were plentiful throughout the match.
Tolka duo, Eva Cunningham and Jolie Niland, were on form, connecting on early shots and stellar defense but Emma Dyer’s contribution of eight points came in handy when fatigue began to settle on the Dublin team.
For UL, American Kristen O’Neill made the difference for the club who netted 26 points – including the heartbreaking game-winner shot that sealed the one point victory for the Munster side.
Tolka returned from a time out with a 2.9 second chance to win the game, but even with a shot fired by captain Jolie Niland, it fell just inches short of a victory.
