ISP.TV'S WOMEN'S SUPERLEAGUE ROUND UP

In the IrishSport.TV’s Women’s SuperLeague, Team Montenotte Hotel Cork were crowned Regular Season Champions, DCU Mercy cruised past Bausch & Lomb Waterford Wildcats and Tolka Rovers wrapped up their season with three victories in a row.
Team Montenotte Hotel Cork have wrapped up the Regular Season with one game left to play after a thumping 90-67 win over UL on Saturday evening.
The reigning champions will have home advantage in the last four of the Play-Off’s after a devastating display which included 24 points from Niamh Dwyer, while Valarie O’Driscoll chipped in with 19 points.
UL were always up against it after trailing 54-31 with Rachel Vanderwal top scoring for James Weldon’s side with 19 points.
“It was one of our best performances of the season,” said Montenotte Head Coach Mark Scannell. “We have had some close games recently but that stood to us tonight and we had some terrific performances from all the team including our bench players.
“We were very happy with the balance but we won’t be switching off against DCU Mercy next weekend and it’s another important game in terms of preparations for the semi’s,” he added. “We are still going and hopefully we will be there or thereabouts when the trophy is handed out at the end of the season.”
DCU Mercy secured second place in the IrishSport.TV’s women’s SuperLeague after cruising past Bausch & Lomb Waterford Wildcats 93-47.
With a 20 point contribution from both Ann-Marie Healy and Sarah Woods, DCU sailed onwards towards their final regular season meeting with Team Montenotte Hotel Cork in a weeks time.
Tolka completed their season on a high after a 73-52 win over Sligo All Stars. With double digit contributions from five Tolka players, Sligo had no answers for their opponents’ sharp shooting.
Head Coach Emmet Geoghegan expressed the Dublin sides’ delight at finishing the season in fine form.
“We played tough and solid” stated Geogeghan, “and I couldn’t be happier with how we have improved as a team”
“Now it’s time for a short break and enjoy our strong finish”.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Killester solidified their fourth place run and Tolka Rovers defeated Meteors on a narrow score line of 66-62.
Killester can look forward to the Play-Off’s with optimism after a 52-38 win over Sligo All Stars.
Head Coach Mark Grennell praised the Dublin sides’ defensive intensity and experience.
“It was going to be a tough game travelling to Sligo as they won last week but we are really happy with the win,” stated Grennell.
“After a good start, we executed well and defense was great. However we let them back in the game for a great battle in the second half.”
“Full credit to the Sligo team as they were tough but in the end it was our experience that brought us the win” added Grennell.
“Eight wins was our target this year and we are delighted to see such improvement from last year.”
Tolka Rovers edged out a narrow victory against capital rivals Meteors with a final score line of 66 - 62. The win was greatly helped by a 36-point contribution by
Tolka post players Emma Dyer and Jolie Niland.
The narrow victory came after a sensational hook shot from Tolka post player Emma Dyer who sunk the two pointer to bring her side up by a mere three points.
Meteors had a chance to tie but turned the ball over and were forced to foul Tolka guard, Naoise Doran who sank one free throw. Meteors’ player Lorainne O’Brien desperately threw up a 3-point attempt but it fell short as the buzzer rang out.
