The new Basketball Ireland’s Coaching Licence application process is now officially open and you can find a guide on the simple application process below. A coaching Licence is compulsory for any coach wishing to coach a team in Basketball Ireland Competitions of any level.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS
What do you need to do in order to get a Coaching Licence?
Step 1
Check that you have completed the following in order to be eligible for a Coaching Licence:
That you have completed at least one Sport Ireland-endorsed Basketball Ireland coaching course since 1997. If you have not completed a course, a list of courses is available on Basketball Ireland’s online shop or you can contact your local area board/Development officer. Please note: If you wish to check if you are qualified as a Basketball Coach with Sport Ireland, please email Sheena Hubbard coachingcourses@basketballireland.ie with as much information on your course as possible and she can confirm your level.
That you have completed Garda Vetting through Basketball Ireland in the last five years. NOTE: If it has been longer than five years, you must renew your vetting before you will become eligible. That you have completed the Safe Guarding 1 Course*
*Please note that coaches under the age 18 do not require this but must complete the course as soon as they turn 18 in order to keep their licence.
Courses are being run around the country by Local Sports Partnerships (LSP’s) and some local authorities. For a full list of LSP’s around the country, click here. If you require any further information on safeguarding, email safeguarding@basketballireland.ie

Sport Ireland offer an online Safeguarding 1 (SG1) refresher course - CLICK HERE. *Please note the online refresher is only for those who have firstly completed a face to face Safeguarding 1 workshop and are wishing to refresh their knowledge.
Anyone wishing to access the SG1 online refresher must create username and password. The online refresher is located in the Sport Ireland Ethics section.
Step 2
Register with Basketball Ireland as a coach through the online registration system for technical members and pay the technical registration fee.

Step 3
Complete the online coaching licence application form in full once you have completed Steps 1 and 2. Please make sure you attach any requested information as incomplete forms will not be processed.

What happens next?
Basketball Ireland will then process your Coaching Licence application and post out your licence*.
If you are not eligible for a licence due to non-compliance of Steps 1 or 2 you will be notified by email within due course.
* Note during busy times this could take up to 21 days.
Once you have received your license:
Keep your Coaching Licence safe in order to produce it as required at the various Basketball Ireland Competitions you may be involved in.
From September 1st, 2018, a Basketball Ireland Coaching Licence will be the only form of proof accepted to show that as a coach, you are qualified, registered and Garda vetted.
Replacement licences will be issued at a cost of €10 to cover the licence and postage.
Important Note
From the start of the 2019/20 season, no coach will be able to take part in any Basketball Ireland competitions without holding a Coaching Licence.
Finally:
Check and complete the required amount of continued professional development (CPD) over the period outlined in order to renew your licence ahead of the licence expiration date.
