December 15, 2017
In more exciting news for Irish basketball this week, it has been confirmed that Patrick Baumann, Secretary General of FIBA World will be Basketball Ireland’s guest of honour for the 2018 Cup final weekend.
Mr. Baumann visited Dublin in 2016 for the FIBA Europe General Assembly and was very impressed with the organisation of the event and the hospitality afforded to him, and has now confirmed his attendance at the Cup final weekend in January – a doubly special event as it also marks 25 years of the National Basketball Arena.
“I am delighted to visit Dublin again and attend the Cup finals event,” he said on confirmation of his attendance. “I have noted through conversations with Kamil Novak, FIBA Executive Director Europe, and Basketball Ireland’s Secretary General , Bernard O’Byrne, the progress that Basketball Ireland has made in recent years. I am pleased therefore to visit Dublin and give more encouragement for continued growth of our great sport in Ireland.”
Bernard O’Byrne stated: “FIBA and FIBA Europe Zone have been incredibly supportive of Basketball Ireland’s efforts in recent years. Apart from financial input, the expertise and advice received is an exemplar of how governing bodies should relate to their members. Patrick Baumann is a great friend of Irish basketball and we are always thrilled to welcome him to Ireland.”
