PREVIEW: Ireland Under 18 women to face off against Group C winners Czech Republic tomorrow
The Ireland Under 18 women’s basketball team face a tough test tomorrow evening when they go head-to-head with Group C winners, Czech Republic, at 5.45pm (Irish time) in the round of 16 at the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship Division A.
Ireland finished fourth in their group following losses to Poland, Russia and France, while the Czech Republic topped Group C after wins over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a surprise win over Serbia last night. They have suffered just one loss to date at the hands of Spain.
Looking back at last night’s game against France and ahead to the Czech Republic game, Ireland Under 18 women’s head coach, Patrick O’Neill stated: “We took the French out of their rhythm a bit last night, and our last quarter was phenomenal – to actually outscore France in that quarter was brilliant.
“We’re excited now about the Czech Republic. They’re not as tall as the other teams we've played, but they’re a high scoring team and have a lot of threats. They’ll be different to what we’ve faced so far, so we’ll have to adjust our defence to be ready for them.”
Ireland plays the Czech Republic in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, August 8th at 5.45pm (Irish time).
