NOTICE RE: ELECTION OF DIRECTORS TO THE BOARD OF BASKETBALL IRELAND – SEPTEMBER 2019
Three nominations have been received to fill the two vacancies on the Board caused by the retirement of two Directors namely Frank Ryan (ineligible to be re-elected) and Paul McDevitt (eligible).
The validated nominees are:
Basketball Background: Jeanne started by volunteering within local Tyrrelstown groups\youth community programs in 2012-13. This led her to Dublin Sonics Basketball Tyrrelstown at first as a parent, and then as volunteer in multiple roles such as Secretary and club Treasurer. Since 2018 Jeanne has also got involved in many other aspects of basketball from within the club broadening her experience from day to day running, into the governance of basketball in her regional league body as a disciplinary committee member.

Professional Profile: Jeanne is a managerial professional in IBM with 20 years’ experience specialising in development and implementing complex technical solutions with numerous IT qualifications in Systems Integration, Data Mining\AI Modelling and CRM Systems. With cross functional expertise in IT Standards, Processes, Business Controls & Continuity and Technical (Agile) Project management Business Advisory\Consultant.

Paul McDevitt, FCCA Registered Auditor and Accountant, has been a partner in McDevitt & McGlynn since 1992. Paul has extensive experience in dealing with SME’s and not for profit organisations, advising them on taxation, financial, corporate governance and auditing matters. Treasurer of both the NWAB (North West Area Board) and the NABC (National Area Boards Committee), he is also a member of sub committee, reviewing the current corporate structure of Basketball Ireland and is actively involved in coaching at both club and Area Board level. Elected to the Board of Basketball Ireland in June 2018.

Background and involvement in Basketball: Michael Played National League and Super League from mid-1970’s until early 1990’s with St Vincent’s and Team Jameson. He continued to play Dublin league for a number of years, and now plays Master’s Basketball
He is a member of St Vincent’s Basketball club where he has served as an executive and also served a number of terms as treasurer.
He currently coaches underage at St Vincent’s basketball club and has coached in St Vincent’s CBS school. He has done the level 2 coaching course.
In the 1980’s he was involved in presenting administration courses to clubs for what was then the Irish Basketball Association. In more recent years he was involved and chaired FinArc (Financial Audit & Risk Committee) for Basketball Ireland and has provided assistance to BI on various matters.
Professional Background: Michael was Head of Tax in McCann FitzGerald until April 2018 when he retired from the partnership and took on a part time role as a consultant to the tax group in the firm. Prior to joining McCann FitzGerald in 2000, Michael was a Director in KPMG which he joined as a trainee accountant in 1979.
Michael is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (BBS 1979). He is qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and as an Associate of the Irish Taxation Institute in 1983. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland in 1992.
Michael is a past council member of the Irish Taxation Institute (“ITI”). He currently chairs the editorial board of the Irish Tax Review. He is the editor of the ITI Book on Corporation Tax, and a past member of the tax committee of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies in Ireland. He has been a lecturer on the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation program of the ITI and previously lectured on the ITI training programs. Michael has also been an examiner for the ITI and an external examiner on taxation for the National College of Ireland (IFSC). He currently is a member of the disciplinary committee of the ITI. He is an incoming member of the Governing Body of the Marino Institute of Education from September.
The vote will take place at the AGM of Basketball Ireland on Saturday 7th September 2019 at 11 o’clock.
Members entitled and intending to vote must produce evidence of their nomination to vote on behalf of a particular entity to BI staff.
Ideally this should be done before the date of the meeting, but alternatively between 1000hrs and 1045hrs on the day of the meeting to allow for the timely start of the meeting.
