Lions banning single use plastics
February 13, 2020
Dublin Lions Basketball Club are leading the way with a new initiative looking to “ban single use plastic bottles”.
At the start of February in Coláiste Bríde, Clondalkin launched the exciting initiative which they hope will be taken up by other sports clubs around Ireland.
Over 150 people attended the launch including Teresa Walsh, President of Basketball Ireland, Vickey Casserly, Mayor of South Dublin County Council and Club Sponsors Abbey Seals.
Alison O’Reilly and Michelle Shortt from Xylem Water Solutions led the launch with Alison giving a very informative talk on single use plastic, explaining how reusable water bottles are friendlier to the environment. The example was given that fifty club members using reusable water bottles will eliminate up to 7,200 single use plastic bottles over the course of a year. The possibilities for clubs and schools around the country to make a big difference while playing sport is clear to see.
Dublin Lions want to say a huge thank you to Xylem Water Solutions, who sponsored the provision of the reusable sport water bottles which will help to reduce Dublin Lions carbon footprint.
They would also like to thank the President of Basketball Ireland, the Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Abbey Seals and everyone who attended the fantastic launch.
For any other club who would like to find out more information they can contact Dublin Lions directly.
