Guidance issued over Covid-19 financial assistance
June 23, 2020
The Board of Basketball Ireland have begun work preparing a submission for financial assistance following Friday’s announcement by the government of €70m in funding for sport.
The Board have been in contact with Sport Ireland and the Federation of Sport and hope that protocols for grant submission will be issued shortly to help sport get back up and running.
Basketball Ireland understand that Sport Ireland will administer the funds provided the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. The funds will be allocated “in accordance with rigorous grant-assessment protocols”. Only those who can prove loss, or future losses, will be considered.
There are over 60 National Governing Bodies recognised by Sport Ireland, including Basketball Ireland, each can apply for funding via the Resilience Fund of €10m. There is also a Sports Club Resilience Fund of up to €15m and a Sports Restart and Renewal Fund of up to €5m.
Basketball Ireland will gather information from its units when the protocols are issued by Sport Ireland.
Covid-19 funding for the sports sector is broken down as follows:
• €40m split between GAA. IRFU and FAI
• €10m Resilience Fund to support National Governing Bodies
• €15m Sports Club Resilience Fund
• €5mln – Sports Restart & Renewal Fund
