Entrance deadline set for new Masters National Cup competitions
July 29, 2020
Basketball Ireland is urging clubs and players, including those not affiliated with clubs, who would like to compete in the new Masters National Cup competitions for over 40’s and over 50’s, to get in touch.
The deadline for teams to submit their expression of interest to play in the 2020/21 competitions has now been set for September 1st.
Mike Murray, who is Administrator for Basketball Ireland’s Masters Section, said:
“We have huge interest so far from individual players and clubs who want to get involved and we would ask those who haven’t contacted us yet, to do so. It will allow us to formulate tournaments for the 2020/21 season and also mean we can help individual players find a team to play in.”
“It is an exciting time to get involved in Masters basketball with a National Cup season finale at the National Basketball Arena in February.”
Earlier this month Basketball Ireland announced the new competitions for the 2020/21 season, with a Masters National Cup weekend taking place at the National Basketball Arena on February 20th and 21st.
The new Masters National Cups will be open draw national competitions, while Shield competitions may be organised for sides beaten in the first round, to guarantee teams at least two games.
Teams who enter must comprise solely of players resident in the same province. Players must also be register with Basketball Ireland and have a current BIPIN. The registration fee will be €20 per Masters player. Those interested in playing in the Masters National Cup must email MastersCups@basketballireland.ie.
