Return to Play physical preparation programme launched
August 07, 2020
Basketball Ireland has launched a ‘Return to Play’ physical preparation programme, which has been designed to help players return to the court.
The programme, which includes a series of instructional videos, aims to reduce the risk of injury following a long period of inactivity.
Basketball Ireland Senior Technical Officer Matt Hall, who is also a member of the ‘Return to Play’ group said:
“Our Head of Athletic Development, Peder Madsen and Kevin Foley, have designed this programme, which if done over the 6-8 week period will help avoid injury. Players have been off the court for an extended period and are naturally keen to be in their best shape with the 2020/21 season approaching and this will help them.”
Charles Higgins, chair of the ‘Return to Play’ group added:
“All areas of basketball are at the forefront of our thinking as we get back to our sport. This programme will help clubs, coaches and players, giving them materials to help them with pre-season.”
The programme should be completed three times a week on non-consecutive days, with players alternating between day one and day two of the programme.
