Media accreditation and season guidance for 2020/21 season
October 14, 2020
Basketball Ireland would like to issue to following guidance to media wishing to attend National League or international fixtures during the 2020/21 season.
Sport Ireland has authorised National League League teams, including the U20 National League (not Cup), and the international teams as elite/professional. It means that matches may proceed up to and including level 4 restrictions in the Republic of Ireland.
Media are permitted to attend matches involving National League clubs and international sides. Media outlets/freelancers wishing to attend and work at matches must notify Basketball Ireland and clubs at least 24 hours in advance of their intention to do so. Please email Basketball Ireland in writing on firstname.lastname@example.org, along with contacting match host clubs directly with the following details:
Name: eg Joe Bloggs
Position: eg. Journalist/Photographer/Videographer
Media Outlet: eg. Basketball Daily Gazette (write freelance, if freelance)
Game wishing to attend: eg. DCU Mercy v Trinity Meteors
Permission/accreditation to attend is at the discretion of the host club. Host clubs should not unreasonably refuse entry to media personnel and these may counted outside the recommended 50 at a match. Home teams are responsible for contact tracing.
Media are advised to arrive in enough time to allow time to check-in at venues and to follow any instruction from on-site club Covid-19 officers. Clubs may allocate a specific area of the arena for journalists/photographers to work from during the match, to ensure social distancing is adhered to. Members of media should wear masks while in attendance and maintain hand hygiene, using hand sanitisation available at venues.
If you are seeking to do a post-match interview with any coach/player, members of the media are reminded to observe social distancing. No handshakes are permitted.
If a member of the media who has attended a National League match tests positive for Covid-19 and you had symptoms within 48 hours of the match you must inform both clubs, along with Basketball Ireland’s Return to Play group on RTP@basketballireland.ie. If a member of the media has had contact with another match attendee or participant who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19 within 48 hours of them having symptoms, the member of media must get tested and restrict their movements until they get a negative result.
Accreditation for National Cup semi-finals and finals is through Basketball Ireland. Media will be informed of the application process in advance.
