BI issues reminder to basketball community returning from abroad
May 09, 2021
Basketball Ireland would like to remind our basketball community abroad, who are intending to return to Ireland, to monitor the ongoing government advice and protocols in place, including mandatory quarantine procedures.
At present if you come into Ireland from a designated State, which currently includes the USA, you must complete a minimum period of 10 days of mandatory quarantine in a hotel. However, if you receive a negative or ‘not detected’ result from an RT-PCR test taken on day 10, your period of quarantine may be completed at home. This countries listed as a ‘designated State’ are regularly updated, you can view the list here.
Exemptions from mandatory hotel quarantining are in place for those who are fully vaccinated, however the Irish government currently only deems people ‘fully vaccinated’ 7-15 days after receipt of their vaccination. A negative RT-PCR test, taken in the last 72 hours before departure, is also required even if ‘fully vaccinated’. Please read the full exemption details here.
The situation with Covid-19 is constantly evolving and the guidelines listed above are a brief outline of the full restrictions and are also subject to change. Basketball Ireland urges people to read the latest full restrictions via Irish government’s official channels. The Irish government guidelines regarding quarantining when returning to Ireland from abroad can be found here and you can access the Irish government’s ‘Covid-19 Travel Advice’ here.
If you require further information or assistance, please contact the Department of Foreign Affairs.
