Tom Collins Inter Regionals Review
October 19, 2015
The BIPPS U15 Inter-Regionals once again produced some fantastic competition and games over the weekend. (16-18th October 2015).
In the boys competition Pool A with five teams was dominated by both the West and East Region who found relatively easy passages to the Cup Semi final against the North-West, South-East & North East Regional Teams. The South and North Regions advanced from Pool B where any two of the four teams which included the Midlands and South-West could easily have advanced. It went down to the result of the last game.
In the Cup semi-final pairing the West Region advanced against the South Region while the East Region eventually overcame a resilient Northern Regional team. In the Cup final the East defeated the West in a classical final. The loss of the West point guard to injury was a pivotal turning point in a thrilling contest in which the East finished strongly on a scoreline of 59-44
In the girls competition Pool A also had five teams with two Cup semi-final slots available. The South Region booked a slot early having defeated all the teams in the group. However the battle for the second semi-final spot went down to the last game and involved points difference between the South-West, West and Midlands.
In Pool B the North-East Region and South-East Region were putting in extremely strong performances whilst advancing to the Cup semi-finals in the process. The North-East Region proved too strong for the West Region in their semi-final and the South East Region were beaten by a basket by the South Region in a most exciting game. The final was also a classic and the South retained their title by a basket despite a valiant effort from a spirited and talented North-East team.
In the Plate competition The South-West Region won the boys against the Midlands Region and the East Region won the girls against the South West.
Irish U15 Head Coaches Andy Gill (Girls) and Pat Price (Boys) who were present as they seek to assemble Irish squads through competition and trials had much praise for the efforts, skills, dedication and talent of the players and coaches. Gerry Kelly President of Basketball Ireland presented the Cups to the winning teams and spoke and praised their efforts as they seek to become better players on a daily basis and he thanked all of the people who help and encourage them in this task.
The BIPPS 'Tom Collins' competition will be held in the NBA Dublin in October 2016.
