Culloty Returns Takes Charge Of Team Garvey's Tralee
January 14, 2016
In Basketball, Team Garveyâs Tralee Head of Operations Mark Bernsen has left the club with immediate effect.
The American joined the club at the start of the 2015/2016 season but has returned to the US for family reasons.
It was Bernsenâs second spell in the Kingdom having coached Tralee Tigers in the Menâs SuperLeague until 2008.
The role of Head Coach with the National League Womenâs Division One side will fall to Liam Culloty for the remainder of the season. The Listellick man is current Head Coach of the Ireland U18 Womenâs National side and a teacher in Mercy Mounthawk.
Culloty has been coaching with Tralee Imperials since 2010 and was Head Coach for title winning Division One teams in 2013 and 2014. As a player, he is a two-time National League and Cup champion from an eight-year career with Tralee Tigers.
âI know a lot of the girls from over the years,â he said. âThereâs only six games left and making the playoffs would be a big achievement at this stage.â
A statement from the club reads:
"Mark has returned to the USA because his house has been flooded and he must return to try and repair the damage. He will be returning to the to the club as soon as he can and if not in time for the end of the season early next summer when he will return as Director of Basketball Operations for Tralee Imperials Basketball Club.
Liam has agreed to take the position for the remainder of the year as it was felt that if Mark was to return before the end of the season and we once again changed the coach it would be not be good for the team."
