The high tempo was maintained in the second quarter with strong defence shown by both teams resulting in a low scoring quarter. Tough rebounding from Rachel Fitzgerald for Meteors and Marta Wieliczko for DCU were the high lights of this quarter. At the end of the second quarter Meteors still trailed by 4 points.
The game intensified with Sarah Woods pushing the ball from coast to coast maintaining the high tempo which led to an impressive 4 assists and numerous scores.Meteors increased their defensive performance and upped their intensity forcing consecutive turnovers from DCU Mercy However, outside shooting from Suzanne Maguire and Shauna O'Connor contributed to their 14 point lead at the end of the quarter.
The last quarter was a high scoring affair, with both teams going score for score for much of the quarter. However, with a big inside performance from Lisa Palmer of DCU, DCU prevailed with an 18point victory.

Meteors -V- Oblate Dynamos

Meteors faced Oblate Dynamos on Saturday night in a crucial clash as both Dublin team's searched for their first win of the season.
With a strong performance bubbling under the surface waiting to be unleashed, Meteors were determined to make a strong initial impact against the home team. The game began with quick back to back fast breaks from Meteors who were determined from the jump. However, Dynamos promptly reacted and this high tempo game continued for both teams as the first quarter finished 20-17 to Meteors.
The second quarter proved more difficult for Dynamos as Meteors inside duo Susie Doyle and Rachel Fitzgerald converted the team's efforts into scores. Meteors defence intensified and they were rewarded with their efforts with a score line of 39-20 at the end of the first half.
Both teams understood the importance of a win from this game and so did the fans! The second half was spurred on by an energized crowd backing the home team to make a comeback. Key players including McKenna and Scully from Dynamos gave their fans reason to cheer as they began to chip away and attempt to close the gap. Nonetheless, as the game progressed Meteors defence stepped up another notch and proved too difficult for the home side to overcome.
Final score finished at 67-47 to Meteors.
This was the third time this season these two teamed faced each other in a Dublin clash. For the third time Meteors proved successful bagging three wins. It got off to a slow start with a relatively subdue pace. However meteors prevailed throughout the first quarter with tough boards both offensively and defensively from E. Irwin. With tough defence present from both ends ,scoring was limited from both sides with the first quarter ending just 14-10 to Meteors.
Meteors stayed ahead in the second quarter in what could be described as a scrappy match, both teams lacking in sharpness after the mid-season break. Dynamos continued to stay in touching distance with consistent outside shooting from T.Mckenna and L.McLoughlin. Meteors held on with aggressive defence however failed to convert on the offensive end, drawing with dynamos in the second quarter 10-10.
In the third quarter with the aid of tough defence by E.Caffrey the Meteors side raised their intensity and made numerous steels. Meteors Point guard R. Nagle also helped keep Meteors in front by nailing a three pointer from far out. Dynamos proved aggressive and continued to battle under the boards keeping the meteors side on their toes. L.Dunne also helped with an impressive 6 consecutive points against a strong meteors defence. With Dynamos remaining within touching distance of meteors entering the last quarter only 6 points short, the game was not over. Meteors saw 3 consecutive turnovers helping Dynamos back into the game leaving only 1 point between the sides mid fourth quarter. However, Meteors intensity and tough defence proved to stand to them. With scores from R. Nagle and the help of a technical foul posed upon Dynamos, Meteors fought back claiming a 7point victory.
