Oblate Dynamos faced Liffey Celtics on Saturday night in a must win game as they both searched for their first victories.
The game tipped off with Liffey Celtics scoring back to back baskets. Dynamos were slow off the block and could have been in trouble when after just 4 minutes they were on team fouls. However, Captain Gina McKenna came off the bench to steady the game and with some excellent assists and scoring 6 points consecutively she stepped up Dynamos performance and were in a comfortable lead going into half time 35 - 20.
However, this game proved to be a tale of two halves. Liffey Celtics started to chip away at Dynamos lead and with 6.20 left on the clock there was only 8 points in it. Dynamos found themselves in foul trouble again and Liffey Celtics were able to capitalise on this reducing the lead to just 1 point. With 1.38 left on the clock K. Mealey of Liffey Celtics put her team in the lead for the second time during the game. Dynamos were unable to score and had to foul to stop the clock. Liffey Celtics punished Dynamos making their last 2 sets of free throws to win the game 63 - 59.
Oblate Dynamos next home game is against Meteors on Saturday 22 October at 8.00 p.m. (Oblate Hall)
